AMOR ALL GOLD COAST 600
The 2010 Armor All Gold Coast 600 marks the 20th anniversary on the Queensland motorsport carnival, but this year will be unlike any other. First appearing on the Australian motorsport calendar in 1991 as an IndyCar event, the Gold Coast Street Circuit is a high speed, concrete-lined thrill ride that has been modified in a new-look 2010 format.
The 2010 Armor All Gold Coast 600 will be the third endurance event for the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series, with each team required to feature one international driver in its stable, attracting 18 high-profile racers from abroad to Gold Coast this October. This initiative retains the event’s international flavour; a key characteristic over its past two decades.
Also, the 2010 event will be the first promoted by V8 Supercar Events. Led by the strongest management group in the event’s history, V8 Supercar Events are building a framework for a fresh and spectacular motorsport festival for October 22-24, 2010.
The modified Armor All Gold Coast 600 circuit will see the track length reduced from 4.7km to 2.96km. The revised layout will allow for a better spectacle, providing spectators greater on-track action and more entertainment opportunities. Not only will the viewing be enhanced, the modified track layout and design will shorten construction time and reduce disruption to the local traffic and residents. The condensed track is set to free up approximately 40 per cent of the local area, whilst reducing the length of set-up and take down of the track by approximately five weeks in total.
But this year’s event is not just about the action on track. V8 Supercars pledges to turn the Armor All Gold Coast 600 into a family-friendly festival, with off-track entertainment providing something for everyone!
The concept of Rock’n’Race extends into the Armor All Gold Coast 600, mixing world class sport and entertainment on and off the track with the ingredients for the success of this year’s SuperCarnivale. Families are well catered for with a dedicated Family Zone offering plenty of children-friendly free entertainment, as well as shaded areas to eat and rest.
And the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Massive live concerts will keep you rockin’ all night! Keep an eye out for the line-up announcement - it’s going to be BIG!
V8 Supercars has also made an effort to provide a range of affordable ticketing options to attract more families, with options such as kids 12 and under free in its Very Important Kids initiative (VIK Coupon required). The implementation of alcohol free zones and the increase of family activities will also make the event more family-friendly. There are certainly a number of unique changes to this year’s Armor All Gold Coast 600, which will be an experience not to be missed!
